Minnesota Hearing on ‘Universal Background Checks’ Tomorrow Contact Members of the House Public Safety and Security Policy and Finance Committee & Urge Them to Oppose HF 1605
Utilizing a rare tactic, the sponsor of the “Universal Background Checks” bill has requested and received a hearing for HF 1605. The Minnesota House Public Safety and Security Policy and Finance Committee will hold this hearing tomorrow, March 1. HF 1605, opposed by NSSF, seeks to require “universal background checks” for all firearms transfers, with limited exceptions, potentially turning otherwise law-abiding citizens into unsuspecting criminals.
Studies have shown that criminals do not purchase firearms through lawful means. Prohibited persons often acquire firearms by theft, the black market, and from family members or friends, and many times by straw purchasers who can legally pass a background check, but give the firearm to someone who cannot. HF 1605 will not keep firearms out of the hands of criminals, but will only place a burden on those who are law-abiding.
Contact members of the House Public Safety and Security Policy and Finance Committee immediately and urge them to oppose the misguided HF 1605. Contact information for the Committee members can be found below.
