California Holding Major Firearm Hearings on Tuesday
Join NSSF in urging lawmakers to vote NO on SB 220, SB 61, AB 879 and AB 106

The California Senate Committee on Public Safety will consider SB 61 and SB 220 on Tuesday, April 2. If passed, SB 220 would create government-mandated standards for how firearms retailers must secure and store inventory when closed for business. SB 61 would only allow individuals to purchase one firearm every 30 days.

SB 220 and SB 61 could cause many firearms retailers to go out of business.

While NSSF has continued to work with the bill sponsor to improve the legislation, allowing for more options, NSSF will remain opposed to SB 220 as it creates burdensome, and even some unworkable standards for retailers. Additionally, NSSF remains concerned with localities being able to enforce stricter standards than those proposed by SB 220. NSSF is opposed to limitations on the amount of firearms a consumer can purchase and will continue to oppose this bill throughout the process.

Additionally, The California Assembly Committee on Public Safety will consider AB 879 and AB 1064 on Tuesday, April 2 as well. If passed, AB 879 would establish a considerable, unnecessary and costly process for the purchase or other acquisition of specified firearms parts, both finished and unfinished.

AB 1064 would mandate color video and sound surveillance of the premises and all transactions for the sale of firearms and ammunition, the authorizations for additional local jurisdiction requirements on dealers that are more stringent than state law, and the imposition of civil fines to be levied by the State Department of Justice.
