Virginia General Assembly Convenes
with Gun Control on the Agenda
The 2020 Legislative Session Begins on January 8
The Virginia General Assembly will convene for its 2020 legislative session on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. With both chambers changing party control, firearms related issues, specifically gun control, is at the top of the agenda. Gun control groups led by Michael Bloomberg and Gabby Giffords spent $3 million during last year’s election and will expect new leadership to advance their anti-gun priorities.
A host of bills affecting the firearms industry and law-abiding gun owners have already been introduced and more are expected to be introduced in the coming days and weeks.
Ban on Commonly Owned Semi-Automatic Rifles and Shotgun (“Assault Firearms”) – SB 16
Ban on Firearm Suppressors
Ban on Magazines with a Capacity Greater than 10 Rounds – SB 16
Increase Age to Purchase and Use Firearms – SB 18; SB 75
