Denying Democrats a Quorum, HB 4005 in Jeopardy

HB 4005 which would require Oregonians to lock up firearms when they’re not in “control” of them by imposing a $500 or $2,000 fine for non-compliance was scheduled to be heard on the House floor tomorrow and by all indications would have passed. Republicans in the House joined their Senate colleagues in staging a walkout denying the majority a quorum (attendance required to conduct legislative business). With less than two weeks remaining in the legislative session, this maneuver is significant. As long as the Republicans refuse to show up, legislation cannot be acted upon.

NSSF® has been working diligently on your behalf this session and welcomes this news as it will ensure anti-firearm legislation does not become law.

NSSF still strongly opposes HB 4005 and thanks the Republicans in the House and Senate. Please contact your representatives by clicking here and tell them thank you.
