Hawaii Legislature Will Consider Multiple Anti-Firearms Bills

Just when citizens in Hawaii thought the state couldn’t infringe on their Second Amendment rights anymore, the legislature has decided the most oppressive gun laws in the country aren’t enough. On Thursday Feb. 6, the  Hawaii State Senate and House are holding hearings on multiple anti-firearm legislative proposals. If passed, these bills would fundamentally change how firearms manufacturers, retailers and ranges operate in Hawaii.

While all the bills are alarming, the most egregious to industry is Senate Bill 2519 which prohibits the sale, manufacturing or ownership of new magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition. Senate Bill 2635 and House Bill 2736 would severely limit ammunition purchases and requires dealers to be licensed.

Perhaps most comically, Senate Bill 3053 bans “50 caliber guns” but doesn’t specify exactly what type of 50 calibers guns.

House Bill 1733 and Senate Bill 2943 above, prohibits the purchase and manufacture of certain firearms parts by private individuals in an effort to ban home built firearms.

These are in addition to numerous other bills limiting concealed carry, exporting personal firearms and increased difficulty of an individual to obtain firearm permits.
