N.C. Firearm Retailers May Remain Open Per Governor’s Order

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper this afternoon signed Executive Order No. 121 in response to an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Gov. Cooper’s “Stay at Home” order deems certain businesses as “Essential Businesses,” allowing them to continue operations. This “Frequently Asked Questions for North Carolina’s Stay At Home Order,” dated March 27, 2020 specifically states:

“Gun stores implementing social distancing requirements for employees and customers as defined in the order may remain open.”

Please note: Some cities and counties in North Carolina have issued their own executive orders deeming certain businesses as “essential” and have excluded firearm and ammunition-industry related businesses from their list. Local orders stricter than the Governor’s order will remain in effect.

If your firearm business has been closed due to a local order, please contact NSSF® Director of Government Relations-State Affairs, Trevor Santos, at tsantos@nssf.org. Please include your name, the name of your business, where your business is located and your contact information. NSSF will continue working on the industry’s behalf in North Carolina and around the country.

NSSF urges all members to closely follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and take precautions to protect the health of their employees and customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates.
