Maryland Legislators Urge Gov. Hogan to Close Gun Stores

On April 2, a group of Maryland lawmakers sent this letter to Gov. Larry Hogan urging him to close Maryland gun stores. The Baltimore Sun’s article includes this statement from Gov. Hogan spokesman Mike Ricci, “Federal guidelines expressly designate gun stores as essential, and the governor’s orders adhere to the federal guidelines."

The Department of Homeland Security recognizes the importance of the firearm and ammunition industry during this time of crisis. The following language was included as “Essential Critical Infrastructure” in the most recent version of the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency Guidance document at the request of NSSF®:

“…workers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges…”

At this point in time, NSSF has no indication that Gov. Hogan will reverse course, veer from the federal guidance, and close firearm retailers or other firearm industry-related businesses.

NSSF urges all members to closely follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and take precautions to protect the health of their employees and customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.
