South Carolina Closes More Businesses - Firearm Industry Can Continue Operating

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued another executive order on Friday, April 3, 2020, to help further prevent the spread of COVID-19. Executive Order No. 2020-18 expands the list of businesses deemed “non-essential,” and therefore, required to close. See the full executive order here

Firearm and ammunition industry members, including, but not limited to, manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and shooting ranges may remain open for business.

Gov. McMaster’s order clearly states, “This Section shall not be interpreted, applied, implemented, or construed in a manner so as to suspend, restrict, or otherwise limit the sale or transportation of firearms or ammunition or any component thereof.”

Please note: NSSF® is currently seeking clarification on the closure of “sporting goods stores” as listed in the Order.

NSSF urges all members to closely follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and take precautions to protect the health of their employees and customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.
