South Carolina’s Firearm Industry Remains Operational During New “Home or Work” Order

On Monday, April 6, 2020, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued a new executive order requiring residents and visitors to limit their movements outside of their place of residence, unless engaging in Essential Business, Essential Activities or Critical Infrastructure Operations. Executive Order No. 2020-21 will go into effect Tuesday, April 7, at 5:00 p.m.

Consistent with NSSF®’s request, Gov. McMaster’s order contains an explicit reference to all services detailed in the Department of Homeland Security’s CISA guidance on essential workers. The guidance, as of March 28, includes “workers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges.”  This important language was incorporated in the recently updated CISA guidance at the request of NSSF.

The Order also explicitly states, “This Section shall not be interpreted, applied, implemented, or construed in a manner so as to suspend, restrict, or otherwise limit the sale or transportation of firearms or ammunition or any component thereof."

NSSF urges all members to comply with this order, closely follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and take precautions to protect the health and safety of their employees and customers.
