Virginia Ranges Can Re-Open Statewide on Friday, Plus New Face Covering Requirement
Gov. Ralph Northam’s Executive Order No. 62 is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 28th (unless amended or rescinded), and in doing so will allow businesses that were previously closed, including indoor shooting ranges, to begin reopening. As NSSF® previously reported, Executive Order No. 62 and the amended version allowed localities in the Northern Virginia Region, City of Richmond and Accomack County the option to request to remain in “Phase Zero” instead of moving ahead in the governor’s reopen plan. Many businesses, including indoor ranges, were required to remain closed throughout the duration of the Order.
With the expiration of this Order, indoor shooting ranges that were required to stay closed may now begin reopening on Friday, May 29th.
Additionally, Gov. Northam has now issued Executive Order No. 63 “requiring Virginians to wear face coverings in public indoor settings to help contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.” Per the Governor’s press release, “A face covering includes anything that covers your nose and mouth, such as a mask, scarf, or bandana.” See the full Executive Order here for a list of requirements and exemptions.
NSSF urges all members to comply with executive order requirements, as well as closely follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and take precautions to protect the health of their employees and customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.
