Louisiana’s Proposed Lead Shot Ban on WMA Shooting Ranges to be Reviewed

The House Committee on Natural Resources and Environment and the Senate Committee on Natural Resources will hold a joint committee meeting on Wednesday, June 10 at 9:00 a.m. in committee rooms 5 and 6 of the State Capitol. The committees will vote on whether to reject a proposed Wildlife and Fisheries Commission rule that would ban the use of lead shot on all shotgun ranges on Wildlife Management Area (WMA) properties. The use of lead ammunition on ranges does not violate federal environmental laws and there is no scientific evidence it has any population-level impacts on wildlife species. Allowing this unjustified ban to go into effect would set a dangerous precedent.

Please contact the members of the House and Senate committees and urge them to vote to reject the proposed lead shot prohibition on WMA ranges.
