South Carolina: Sunday Hunting on Public Lands Needs Your Help

Contact Members of the Committee and Urge Your Support for H. 4614

South Carolina state Representative Bobby Cox (R-21) has introduced legislation to increase public hunting opportunities in the Palmetto State. House Bill 4614 would authorize someone to hunt on public wildlife management areas on Sunday during the regulated hunting seasons. State law currently prohibits hunting on public lands on Sunday, and only allows those with private property or access to private property the ability to go afield and hunt on Sunday.

Sunday hunting is an excellent vehicle to recruit new hunter-conservationists. Hunting, fishing, and other forms of outdoor recreation have proven physical, psychological, and educational benefits for our nation’s young people. Due to the greater prevalence of academic, athletic, and other competing activities that take place on Saturday, it is likely that allowing Sunday hunting will more than double the number of days children can hunt. Additionally, for those adults who work Monday through Friday, or Saturday, this would allow one more chance to go afield and hunt.

House Bill 4614 has been referred to the House Committee on Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs, but has not been scheduled for a hearing. We’re asking you to please contact members of this Committee and respectfully communicate your support for House Bill 4614 which will increase hunting opportunities for those who do not have access to private lands. Email addresses for the committee are provided below (and can be copied and pasted into the “To” line of an email).;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
