Maryland Bills Seek to Destroy the Firearm Industry
Voice Your Opposition to These Bills Today
Several bills were recently introduced in the Maryland General Assembly that will be detrimental to the future of the firearm industry. The recently introduced Senate Bill 873 seeks to decimate the firearm industry by gutting the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). Specifically, SB 873 would allow the Maryland attorney general to file suit against the firearm industry for the criminal misuse or unlawful possession of firearms in Maryland. SB 873 has been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee on Wednesday, March 2.
Additionally, multiple bills relating to federal firearms licensees (FFLs) have been introduced. House Bill 1021 seeks to create a one-size-fits-all mandate for how FFLs are to secure their business premises and store their firearms during non-business hours. Similarly, Senate Bill 773 would require FFLs to store all “regulated firearms” in a vault during nonbusiness hours. While HB 1021 has not been scheduled for a hearing, SB 773 will receive a hearing in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee on Wednesday, March 15.
Please begin contacting members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and respectfully urge them to reject Senate Bill 873 and Senate Bill 773. Contact information for members of the committee can be found below.
