Maryland General Assembly Looks to Override Gov. Hogan’s Veto of FFL Mandate Bill

Contact Your State Senator Immediately and Urge Him or Her
to Oppose the Veto Override of HB 1021

NSSF® and several members companies recently met with Gov. Larry Hogan’s office to request that the Governor veto House Bill 1021. We are pleased to announce that Gov. Hogan did indeed veto HB 1021 thanks to the outcry from industry members across the state. You can read Gov. Hogan’s veto letter here. However, the Maryland General Assembly is eyeing an override to the Governor’s veto of this bill that would put many FFLs out of business across the state.

Please contact members of the Maryland Senate IMMEDIATELY and urge them to oppose overriding Gov. Hogan’s veto of HB 1021. To find your State Senator, use this link and click “Lookup” in Find my Representatives. Once you’ve input your address, scroll down to find “State Senator” and click on his or her name for contact information.

HB 1021 will mandate a “one-size-fits-all” approach for how licensed dealers must secure their businesses and store their firearms. Businesses not complying will face fines, suspensions of licenses, and even revocation of licenses. Licensed dealers will only have about six months to comply with the requirements if the bill is enacted. The bill goes far beyond the intended target of just “gun shops,” and will affect licensed dealers who work from their home, as well as large manufacturers and distributors. HB 1021 punishes law-abiding businesses rather than holding criminals accountable for breaking into licensed firearm dealers and stealing firearms.
