N.C. Gov. Cooper Calls for Gun Control Cooper States Support for an 'Assault Weapons' Ban and More
In a video posted to Twitter last week, Democratic North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced his support for a host of gun control measures. In the two and half minute video, Cooper states his support for stronger laws, including calling on Congress to ban “assault weapons” and pass “Universal Background Checks.” Additionally, Gov. Cooper calls on the North Carolina General Assembly to expand the state’s permit to purchase a pistol requirement to include semi-automatic rifles, and potentially other long guns.
NSSF® opposes each of these measures, knowing they are not the solution to ending violence in our country. Each of these legislative proposals will only infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens. “NSSF, the firearm industry trade association, will work with those in Congress who are dedicated to serious, sober, thoughtful and deliberate discussions to address measures to prevent these tragedies. There can be no more inappropriate moment for political theater.”
