As many retailers are aware, the state of New York passed an extensive security and record keeping law that is scheduled to be implemented in the coming months. Today, NSSF® had a meeting with staff from both the Governor’s Office and the New York State Police concerning implementation of these requirements. Out of these discussions it has become abundantly clear that more time will be needed for public guidance to be presented to retailers.
NSSF was told to advise their members that the New York State Police will not be conducting inspections of retailers without having proper guidance in place. The Governor’s Office also made it clear that they did not want our members to be spending resources to comply the law until regulations are published. The State Police in the near future will create an FAQ document which will provide more guidance reflecting our conversation today. NSSF will continue to work with the State Police to help clarify and represent our members interests concerning this new law.
