West Virginia: Pro-Firearm Industry Bill Expected to Receive Committee Hearing Thursday Please Contact Members of the Committee and Urge Support for HB 3400
The NSSF®-backed House Bill 3400 is expected to receive a hearing and vote in the West Virginia House Committee on the Judiciary this Thursday, February 23. HB 3400, sponsored by Delegate Chuck Horst, would require businesses to disclose through an application process if they have discriminatory policies or practices against firearm entities. Such policies or practices could prohibit the discriminating company from being awarded state contracts.
NSSF members engaged in the lawful commerce of firearms and ammunition have experienced discrimination by institutions simply because of the type of business they are in. In these cases, the refusal to provide goods and services results in higher costs of doing business and increased prices for consumers who are simply exercising their Second Amendment rights. Our members have reported facing discrimination from financial institutions, payment processors, internet search engines, social media companies, insurance companies and other service providers not covered by the FDIC.
While the firearm industry respects the right of financial institutions and other service providers to make business decisions based on objective criteria, it is wrong to discriminate against businesses simply because they are engaged in the lawful commerce of firearms and ammunition, a heavily regulated activity protected by the Second Amendment. State governments should have the right to know if companies are “Anti-Second Amendment.” They should have a choice to do business elsewhere.
Contact members of the House Committee on the Judiciary immediately and respectfully urge them to support House Bill 3400 when it comes up for a vote.
