Mississippi Industry Alert: Urge Gov. Reeves to Sign Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act Into Law
HB 1110 Would Protect Consumers and Firearm Retailers

Mississippi House Bill 1110, also known as the Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act, has been approved by the Mississippi Legislature and is enroute to Republican Gov. Tate Reeves for consideration. House Bill 1110 takes the necessary steps to ensure that financial institutions and credit card companies are prohibited from sharing the private financial information of consumers purchasing firearms, ammunition, and other related components and accessories. NSSF feels HB 1110 is necessary to prevent the potential exploitation of customer privacy and denial of services by politically-motivated activists.

Specifically, HB 1110 would do the following:

  • Prohibit the use of a code that distinguishes firearm retailers from general merchandise or sporting goods retailers.
  • Prohibit a financial institution from discriminating against a firearm retailer based solely on the assignment or nonassignment of a firearms code.
  • Prohibit the disclosure of financial records unless required by law or regulation.
  • Allow the Attorney General to investigate alleged violations and act as permitted by the law.

Please contact Gov. Tate Reeves today and respectfully urge him to sign House Bill 1110 into law.
