URGENT OHIO ALERT: Important Mail Is Coming Your Way

In the coming days, you should receive a packet from NSSF^® – The Firearm Industry Trade Association – that contains posters in SUPPORT of OHIO ISSUE 1, which is included in the August 8 special election. In the critical weeks ahead, we strongly encourage you to display these posters where they will be seen by your customers and employees.

Here’s why this is so important:

Fortunately, the U.S. Constitution is extremely difficult to amend. That isn’t the case in many states though. In Ohio, the state constitution can be amended with 50 percent of eligible voters voting in support of a proposed amendment. In other parts of the country, we have seen radical anti-Second Amendment and anti-hunting groups use this low threshold to attack the firearm industry, related businesses and our rights.

Ballot Issue 1 would:

• Require that any proposed amendment to the Constitution of the State of Ohio receive the approval of at least 60 percent of eligible voters voting on the proposed amendment.
• Require that any initiative petition filed on or after January I, 2024 with the Secretary of State proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio be signed by at least five percent of the electors of each county based on the total vote in the county for governor in the last preceding election.
• Specify that additional signatures may not be added to an initiative petition proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio that is filed with the Secretary of State on or after January I, 2024 proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio.

By raising the threshold for a constitutional amendment from 50 to 60 percent, we can make it more difficult for radical groups to change the Ohio Constitution and attack our industry.

NSSF encourages members to place the enclosed posters in storefronts and break rooms, on retail counters and anywhere else highly visible to your customers and employees.

Let’s protect the Ohio Constitution by voting YES on August 8, 2023 on Ballot Issue 1.
