Critical Member Alert: More White House Executive Actions on Firearms
As many of you may have seen, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris announced more executive actions from The White House yesterday.
Pertaining to the firearm industry, the president’s executive actions include creating a task force to deliver a report in 90 days to “assess the threat posed by unserialized, 3D printed firearms and machine gun conversion devices.” As you’re aware, the commerce of those firearms is already illegal unless you possess the required licensing and registration as an FFL.
Additionally, the 90-day window concludes after November’s election and therefore could be dismissed outright by a new administration.
Other executive actions announced included new guidelines for school active-shooter drills, encouraging the safe storage of firearms, providing more funds for states to implement so-called “red flag” laws and “providing model legislation for states to allow a carve-out to share juvenile records solely for the purpose of enhanced background checks.”
The executive action did not include any new updates on the NSSF-supported statutory requirement to allow FFLs to voluntarily utilize FBI NICS to run background check verifications on prospective and current employees.
NSSF® encourages all members to review the announced executive actions from The White House and speak with your legal counsel if you have any questions.
