ACTION ALERT: Oppose SB 243 – Protect Your Business and Customer Rights

Dear NSSF® Members,

We need your immediate attention and action on a dangerous proposal moving through the Oregon legislature that threatens your business, your customers’ rights and the responsible firearms community.

What’s Happening:
The Oregon Senate Judiciary Committee is considering Proposed Amendment 27451 to Senate Bill 243, which would:

  • Impose a mandatory 72-hour waiting period on all firearm purchases — even after a background check is approved.
  • Require a permit-to-purchase for all firearm transactions, adding layers of costly, confusing bureaucracy.
  • Further restrict your customers’ ability to lawfully and responsibly exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Why It Matters:
These proposals will:

  • Hurt small firearm retailers by delaying transactions and driving away customers.
  • Create unnecessary administrative burdens for you and your employees.
  • Disproportionately affect rural communities, where access to permit-issuing agencies is limited.
  • Do nothing to stop crime or improve public safety — law-abiding citizens will bear the brunt.

Take Action NOW:

  1. Contact Your Legislators: Tell them to oppose SB 243 and Amendment 27451. You can find your legislator here.
  2. Submit Testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee by clicking here.
  3. Send a short email stating your opposition.
  4. Share how this bill would impact your business and customers.
  5. Share this alert with your employees, customers, and fellow dealers. Encourage them to speak out.

We cannot afford to stay silent. If passed, this bill will make it harder for law-abiding Oregonians to access their rights — and for you to keep your doors open.

Thank you for standing with us!
