NSSF Action Alert: Urge Congress to Pass Hearing Protection Act
October is National Protect Your Hearing Month. NSSF® is running a digital ad in POLITICO Inside Congress this month urging Congress to pass the Hearing Protection Act (S. 364 / H.R. 404), sponsored by Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Congressman Ben Cline (R-VA).
Historic progress was made in lessening the burden of obtaining firearms and firearm safety devices lawful under federal law in P.L. 119-21, signed by President Donald J. Trump on July 4, 2025. The law reduced the tax on suppressors to $0.
The Hearing Protection Act, however, is still needed, and your Members of Congress need to HEAR from you.
As you know, the government maintaining a registry of owners of NFA items is a deterrent from ownership. Removing suppressors from the NFA does nothing to undermine public safety. What it will do is reduce ATF’s workload and allow the agency to direct more resources to reduce violent crime, rather than process paperwork. Read more here.
Check and see if your Representative is a cosponsor of H.R. 404 (list of cosponsors) and if your Senators are a cosponsor of S. 364 (list of cosponsors). If so, please thank them. If not, please call and ask them to cosponsor and urge a vote on the bill.
Members of Congress can either be reached via their respective congressional websites or by calling the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
Red tape shouldn’t prevent Americans from protecting their hearing when enjoying hunting and shooting sports. |
