S.C. Update: “Sporting Goods Stores” Can Continue to Sell Firearms & Ammunition
On Saturday, April 4, NSSF®alerted you to a new executive order issued by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to help further prevent the spread of COVID-19. Executive Order No. 2020-18 expands the list of businesses deemed “non-essential,” and therefore, required to close.
While the Order allows firearm and ammunition industry members, including, but not limited to, manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and shooting ranges to remain open for business, it also deems “sporting goods stores” as “non-essential,” requiring them to close. NSSF sought clarification on “sporting goods stores” that also serve as firearm retailers.
NSSF has confirmed that “sporting goods stores” may remain open to sell firearms, ammunition, and other related products.
If you have any doubts about whether your business can remain open, you can complete the Clarification of Business Designation Form provided by the S.C. Department of Commerce.
NSSF urges all members to closely follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and take precautions to protect the health of their employees and customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.
